thankfulness

This weekend has been super crazy-busy... I went and took my grad pics, celebrated my brother's birthday, and finally wrote up a resume (after 3 months of procrastination). This weekend was also full of ups-and-downs for me as I tried to get my priorities and basically my LIFE in order. Not to mention the Tornado Zone aka. MY ROOM... the definition of DISORDER. (One day, I will show you pictures of my living conditions and you will all be massively horrified).

Anyway, in the midst of my mental mess, I was reminded by my good friend Jamie Jellow with the image below to not just live life, but to live life well.

I still think writing resumes is pure torture and my room will forever remain a pigsty but a happy lardball of a pig I will be, as I try to be thankful for all the little things that I'm blessed with. =)

Happy Birthday Little Brother

I don't know if it's clear in the comic, but Larry Boy does get run over by the car in the end.

Doodle of the Day: Mehndi Inspirations

My inspiration of the day comes from Mehndi.

No, not Daler Mehndi...

(even though he does inspire me with his impeccable dance moves seen here).

I mean bridal mehndi, also known as Henna.

via google images

So today in class while my friends were looking at Indian bridal ads for their weddings, I decided to practice drawing a few henna-inspired designs of my own. During my 3-hour class, I created this massive doodle (while still listening to the lecture of course)...

This is what happens when you give me a blank piece of paper and a pen.

Party in "THE USA"

Okay. So I realize that lately I have not been doing many ART posts... which is the main purpose of this blog... but I have been too busy studying like a madwoman to make any art worth showing... so you will have to bear with posts about my LIFE until then.

This past week I went on a little adventure with my dad down to Point Roberts (aka. the little section of the States that you can only get to by driving through Canada)... ALSO known as the place of cheap gas, one American supermarket, and nothing much else. It started with me intending to go down by myself to pick up a rug that I had shipped to an American address (shipping to Canada = $40, shipping  to the States = $7!!!) you do the math. But my dad wanted to tag along to experience "THE USA", as he calls it.

So I finally trumped his life-long misconception that "the States is far and dangerous" because 40 minutes later, we were across the border and I had already picked up my rug. My dad then proceeded to explore the uncharted territories of Point Roberts and persuaded me to drive all the way down to the end where the land meets the deep blue sea.

It was the sunniest day we'd had in months. Look at how blue the sky is in this one... (not even Photoshopped!)

My dad was in a good mood so I forced tactfully persuaded him to take creeper pictures behind poles...

Since we were randomly exploring anyway, we also checked out the supermarket... seriously, there are SO MANY MORE FLAVOURS for everything than there is in Canada. And... there were also controversial items that I've never seen sold in Canada...

These made me laugh... then shake my head... then pull out my camera to document the hilarity...

So overall, it was a great trip - Mission Accomplished - on so many levels; I got my rug (yay! see below!), made my dad unknowingly take creeper pictures, found racist salad dressing...what more could I ask for? BEST RANDOM DAY TRIP EVER.

Mystery Monster REVEALED!

I almost forgot to post the mystery monster from last week's baking extravaganza... but here it is... even if you don't want to see it...

Here is my darling creation, dancing at the top of the cake pole ... tier. Out of all the cookies we baked, I was most proud of this one... but no one else really cared much for him... =(

So is my precious little monster creepy or what? Almost as creepy as that time I went to University dressed up in my home-made Halloween costume...(made of: construction paper + aluminum foil + red shirt + boyfriend's old-school Champion tearaways!!!)

At least my identity was hidden by the mask, so my reputation was saved...

Oh man, I can't believe I did that... (that was only last year!) But at least I was riding the bus with my friend dressed as Michael Jackson, so I wasn't alone in my insanity...

good times...

Inspiration: Snowflakes

I've been in a winter slump lately because every time I step outside, I feel like I have to run from Point A to Point B as fast as I can to get away from the cold. And running in 2-inch ankle boots looks silly. Actually, any time I run, it looks silly. Anyway, I've been drinking hot chocolate like crazy and bundling up in thick grandma cardigans and chunky scarves for what seems like an eternity.

via Google images

Don't get me wrong though... I do enjoy some aspects of winter... like these snowflake-inspired creations that I stumbled upon:

I took this picture of a painted mural I saw at the skating rink...

via Tumblr

And... I am officially obsessed with these next two things: they're wooden laser-carved creations crafted by a husband and wife duo who call themselves Uncommon. Their stuff can be found on Etsy (click here).

I really want this clock!!!!! But I really shouldn't be buying home accessories when I don't even own a home =(

These carved coasters are amazing! They make me wish I was a skilled carpenter... haha.

Anyway, I hope these wintry images inspired you too, at least while we all wait (im)patiently for Spring...

Cookies: Part II

So while Grace made those awesome love letter cookies you saw in the last post, I was slaving away on another type of cookie...

Do you like my face in the next one? haha

I think Spiderman approves...

So there you go... SPIDERMAN COOKIES!!! They were fun to make, but even more fun to EAT!!!

One last thing...

I mentioned last time that I used the leftover dough to make one special cookie... I'll post him (or... IT) next time, but I'll leave you with a little preview... Take a random guess + leave a comment!

love letter cookies

Here's a little preview of what I did with my friend Grace this weekend...

She's the baking pro, whereas I'm the girl who can hardly make JELLO properly, so she had to guide me through the whole process... I never knew baking cookies was so hard!!! Anyway, I was super happy with the end result - plus, Grace let me create my own little monster with the leftover dough... hahaha.... any guesses what I made? (I shall post more pictures soon...)

Happy S.A.D. (Singles Awareness Day) !!

To all you single people out there, don't worry, Valentine's is over-rated! Celebrate your singleness! And to all you couples out there, don't get scammed into the whole Hallmark Holiday, but take it as a reminder to show appreciation for that someone special - not just on Feb. 14, but every day. (aww look at me, getting all sappy and sweet).

Speaking of sweet, this is a good segway moment to introducing the one and only sugar-coated fatty fellow, Mr. Donut. Here are some random love-themed donut doodles that will hopefully make you smile =)

Do you feel Mr. Donut's pain?

Fortunately, he fills that empty gaping hole (literally) and reunites with his tiny timbit girlfriend!

How to Comment 101

So since SOME PEOPLE (*cough* bholla/gill *cough*) were having trouble commenting ... here's a quick note on how to do it. haha. If you don't have a Google account or whatnot, you still have to click on the scroll-down bar beside "Comment As:" but you can choose ANONYMOUS. Then you'll be able to leave a comment =)

Now that I've told you, you have no excuse. hahahahaha.

Also, for those who asked, I do have a tumblr account: [ www.kwokskreations.tumblr.com ] but I don't really know how to use it that well (on tumblr, is the idea just to regurgitate and re-post the stuff everyone else posts? I don't really get it...) Anyway, I basically just upload whatever images I post on this site here. Although they do have this snazzy "slideshow" way of showing my pictures, which is cool. So if you have nothing else better to do, go visit and re-post/steal my stuff if you want =)

Tea & Coffee

The weather was blustery and downright depressing yesterday, so I was drinking hot water all day in my attempts to avoid hypothermia. Since it was too cold to frolic outside (haha... frolic...), I stayed in and eventually upgraded from hot water to hot tea and instant coffee from a packet... and in my mind, I imagined what kind of conversation would take place between them... (cue in *dream sequence*)...

... and then things get steamy...

okay, let's keep it PG.

I can't believe it but TODAY, it's actually sunny! So I'm going outside for awhile to FROLIC. Bye!

My hero, Yoda is.

I love YODA... he's the epitome of wisdom AND attractiveness! hahahaha

So imagine my horror at Toys R' Us, when I spotted this HIDEOUS Yoda impostor!!!

Anyway, I thought I'd redeem the ugly Yoda doll, AND my failed [Yoda Pig], so I tried drawing Yoda again. This time, without sunglasses. haha.

Oh cassette tapes... I am *cough* WAS still using them when everyone had already moved on to mp3 players. Seriously, I'm  like one of those old grandmas who scoff at young hoodlums and refuse to go with the times. haha.

Speaking of grandmas...

BEST TOY EVER!!!  haha... totally useless, except for the fact that it would provide me with hours of endless entertainment... by myself... in my room.... with no friends.... story of my life.

greetings, lovely stalkers!

So Blogger has this thing that can track website views and where the views come from - which is kinda neat. This week, (well, actually I only started this blog exactly a week ago...) I got a whole bunch of views from Canadians (Woo! ... thanks friends who were coerced into visiting my blog), from Americans (Hello, people south of the border), from Hong Kongians (I was born in Hong Kong... and have no idea what the correct term for Hong Kong people is), and... if you look at the screenshot I took below... one view from IRELAND! haha.... I think that's so cool!!!

But... thanks to my wandering mind.... I couldn't help but imagine a jolly leprechaun reading my blog from across the world while promoting magically delicious breakfast cereal (giant exaggeration I know... forgive me).

It did inspire me however, to create this...

Now I'm craving Lucky Charms... haha...just the marshmallows though... I don't want the other stuff.

Oh, and if "Dia Dhuit" doesn't really mean "Hello" in Irish, I blame Google Translator.

Anyway, I really do appreciate everyone who views my blog, and reads (or skims over) my random ramblings... =) Have a FANTABULOUS dayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!

I LOVE IKEA!!! ... for many reasons...

Aside from drawing, I also love finding inspiration in interior design. So I was on the IKEA site today, looking at furniture that I can't afford... and I stumbled on an interesting discovery...(just keep reading)...

The first few pictures I saw were really nice like this gorgeous room that I would definitely invest in, if I had $399.00 to spare on a bed frame.

all pictures are screenshots taken from IKEA.com

Some pictures had random people in it, like this woman reading on the bed. I'm okay with that. What I'm not okay with is the NEXT picture...

CREEPER ALERT!!!

I highly doubt that's his kid...

Every single time I look at this picture I burst out laughing... What were they thinking?!?!! "Let's add a creepy man stroking someone else's baby behind a curtain because it will really make this kids room seem more appealing."

This image has now been ingrained deeply into my head... from now on, every time I think of IKEA I will also envision the scary man that hopefully does NOT come along with your furniture purchase.

Oh IKEA... not only do they provide me with interior inspiration... they also make me laugh.

apologies in advance for the creepy intro.

KWOK-a-doodle-dooooo!!! Hello to youuuu!!! (I'm even scaring myself right now...)

So if you haven't figured out already, my last name is Kwok, hence Kwok's Kreations (it really wouldn't make sense otherwise...)... Today in class I was telling someone my blog address so he could go visit it, but the link wouldn't work for the longest time... then I realized he had typed in KWAK instead of Kwok... Flashback to Grade 3, when I won some local art contest and in the newspaper they put me down as KWAK.
The ridicule continues to this very day...

Flashforward to this past term - During my practicum, I was a sub for a day in a kindergarten/grade 1 classroom. I told them my name was Miss Kwok, and they ALL started flapping their arms, doing the "chicken wing", and making QUACKING noises. HAHA. But they were doing it innocently, not in mockery (...i think....) ....  Anyway, the real teacher told me she came back the next day and one kid goes, "WHERE'S MISS DUCK???" Even kids unknowingly ridicule me.

Ginger Art

Since SOMEONE told me today that I didn't know how to draw ginger, I went to my kitchen to seek out the real thing. What I found was...

THIS.

I honestly didn't know ginger was this MONSTROUS-LOOKING!!! I googled "ginger" just to check that this was what it was supposed to look like. haha. Anyway, just looking at this weird, rocky lump got me imagining all these shapes and characters that I could draw on it. But I didn't think my mom would be too happy if I took a Sharpie to her cooking ingredients.

So... I took pictures of the ginger and drew on them in Photoshop instead. Look at the picture below and try to imagine what YOU think the ginger looks like...

Corn vs. Cheese

This coming school week, I think I've got an assignment or quiz every day, so it's gonna feel lonnngggg... It's Sunday night and I'm already looking forward to NEXT weekend haha. In preparation for the Great Monday Depression, I'm posting Pepperoni Face, my fierce sidekick and trusty companion, who can take any greaseball on (mainly because he's the biggest greaseball around).

Also, I finally made a "Kwok's Kreations" signature because someone suggested I should sign all my drawings... and I hardly ever do. But I shall try.

ANOTHER THING: Did anyone notice in the last post, that the two Yoda faces are exactly the same? Extra bonus points if you did. I was too lazy to draw another face so the YODA-PIG is actually a clone hahaha. Oh the wonders of Copy & Paste.

LAST THING: ... since I introduced Pepperoni Face, I feel he's so CHEESY that he needs someone else to rival his cheesiness....

maybe someone corny...

someone like...

ELVIS CORN.

To be quite honest, I have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA how I thought of this character, or what kind of relation Elvis has with corn

Anyhow... Here's the {QUESTION OF THE WEEK}:

If Pepperoni Face and Elvis Corn went at it in an epic battle, WHO WOULD WIN?
